'Florida Hass' Avocado - Will grow about 25 feet in about 15 years. Believed to either be a seedling of the Hass from Mexico or from a grafted tree that was brought to Florida in 1960.There are three types of Avocados: West Indian, Mexican, and Guatemalan. West Indian avocados have the largest fruit and the fruit is green and smooth. Mexican avocados have small fruits with purple or black skin and the foliage has a distinct aroma. Guatemalan avocados have large, greenish-black fruit that has rough skin. Native to Central America, Avocados are found throughout the tropical and subtropical world with the largest avocados cultivated in Hawaii. The avocado is a multi-branched evergreen tree that matures at about 60 feet in height. The flowers are small, greenish in color and not really showy. Each flower opens twice. Plant avocados in well draining soil and water frequently. Avocados grow best and thrive in full sun. Zone 9 and higher.
