Persea americana 'Choquette' - also known as the Florida avocado is a Guatemalan-West Indies hybrid. Its fruit is of great quality and produces a good quantity as well. The fruit is about 6 inches long and 1 to 3 lbs. in weight. The fruit is oval shaped with a shiny, smooth green skin. The tree itself is medium-sized and makes a great shade tree. The 'Choquette' enjoys full sun. It should be kept moist, but allow for good drainage. Harvest time is late September to mid-January.

Avocados are found throughout the tropical and subtropical world with the largest avocados cultivated in Hawaii. The avocado is a multi-branched evergreen tree that matures at about 60 feet in height. The flowers are small, greenish in color and not really showy. Each flower opens twice. Plant avocados in well draining soil and water frequently. Avocados grow best and thrive in full sun. Zone 9 and higher.
